During the late 1950s, the French chemist, Michel Jouvet, discovered the complexities of sleep.
This led Jouvet to discover what is commonly referred to as the R.E.M. stage of sleep. These sleep periods determined the stage of wakefulness one might experience.
These discoveries led him to examine sleep disorders such as Narcolepsy.
People with narcolepsy experience periods of extreme daytime sleepiness and sudden, irresistible bouts of sleep that can strike at any time.
These “sleep attacks” usually last a few seconds to several minutes.
Modafinil The Most Popular Brain Pill To Ever Exist.
Later on, in the 1970s, Jouvet created many different chemical compounds targeted at combating Narcolepsy.
The first rendition of Modafinil ever made was a drug called Adrafinil.
Unfortunately, Adrafinil was shown to have traces of harmful chemicals. After many years of hard work and research, Jouvet created Modafinil.
Modafinil was the ticket to combating Narcolepsy without the harmful side effects associated with its predecessor, Adrafinil.
Modafinil was intended to “decrease extreme sleepiness due to narcolepsy and other sleep disorders such as difficult and irregular breathing during sleep.”
Also, the drug was prescribed to battle “shift work sleep disorder” (SWSD).
‘Modafinil helps users who work at night stay awake through their shifts.’
THE HISTORY OF MODAFINIL
By the 1990’s Modafinil was widely approved by the F.D.A. Patients who suffered from sleep disorders loved the product.
Through more rigorous research and development, scientists discovered that Modafinil positively affected people who did not suffer from sleep disorders.
Such as its ability to enhance alertness and focus. In the early 2000s, the military saw this advantage and soon prescribed Modafinil to the United States Air-force.
Modafinil was explicitly used during the 2003 Iraq War.
Who Was Michel Jouvet?

Sleep research pioneer Michel Jouvet died on the night of Oct. 2 to 3 at 91 years.
In the late 1950s, Jouvet’s neurological research on cats led to a surprising discovery.
“It was then that, by serendipity, we observed a phenomenon which surprised us very much,” he wrote in a retrospective article published in 2001.
He found that muscle activity is inhibited during rapid eye movement (R.E.M.) sleep, a state which he called “paradoxical sleep.”
His seminal paper, “Sur un stade d’activité électrique cérébrale rapide au cours du sommeil physiologique,” was published in 1959.
Jouvet was the longtime head of a laboratory in Lyon for the French national research institution INSERM (Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale).
He received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Sleep Research Society in 1990, and in 1994 he published the review, “Paradoxical sleep mechanisms,” in the journal SLEEP.
Jouvet’s research also laid the groundwork for identifying R.E.M.’s sleep behavior disorder, which led him to become fascinated with the function and meaning of dreams.
His books include The Paradox of Sleep: The Story of Dreaming, and the novel, The Castle of Dreams.
In Chicago in June 2003, Jouvet was recognized at the 17th annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS), which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1953 discovery of R.E.M. sleep.
Modafinil has grown very popular in the academic world.
Students, in particular, love the enhanced performance it offers when they need help with:
- Retaining information,
- And complex passing tests.
Because of the growing popularity and benefits, people worldwide are learning the benefits Modafinil offers.
On top of the popularity, Modafinil has been shown to have little to no addictiveness or withdrawal symptoms.
Making Modafinil the most popular brain pill to ever exist.
My Personal Experience
Over the years, I have tried many combinations. Searching for the perfect mix.
The following is what works best for me!
- I use 1 Artvigil 150mg within 1 or 2 hours of waking up for a typical day.
- On a busy day, I take 2 Artvigil. Never together, continuously 2 hours apart. My reason is below.
- My preferred dose is 1 Waklert and 1 Artvigil again, 2 hours apart for an extra busy day.
Why 2 hours Apart?
I once tried taking 2 Artvigil at the same time. My mind felt a little numb, and I had a terrible headache after about 3 hours. I don’t recommend taking 2 of any of the Modafinils simultaneously.
Waklert, for me, is very strong; that’s why I mix it with Artvigil. I’m ON FIRE when I take Waklert and Artvigil 2 hours apart. I’m entirely focused on my tasks and work for hours on end without a break. I don’t even feel hungry; I work.
Modafinil, in comparison to a close work friend, Paul loves Waklert.
But Paul never agrees to 2 at the same time. Paul’s perfect dose for a very day is 2 x Waklert 2 hours apart.
I have added a few links below to current and past Modafinil research.
What convinced me to try Modafinil in the first place was the success my friend at work was getting from Modafinil.
And then what convinced me that Modafinil was safe. Is all the research available and the people that use Modafinil.
Is Modafinil Safe? Where’s The Evidence?
The Harvard Business Review (H.B.R.) called Modafinil the “Safest Smart Drug” available today.
In the H.B.R. article ‘Like It or Not, “Smart Drugs” Are Coming to the Office.’ The researchers at Harvard and Oxford Medical Schools showed that Modafinil has significant cognitive benefits.
H.B.R. argues that the use of Modafinil in the workplace, universities, etc., is becoming commonplace.
“After their study was published, media reports began to refer to Modafinil as the world’s first safe smart drug.”
From The Guardian.
Modafinil has emerged as the crown prince of smart drugs that promise:
- enhanced memory,
- and an unrelenting ability to focus, all for hours at a time.
Modafinil is believed to enhance short-term memory by as much as 10%.
The Best Way To Use Modafinil.
From personal experience, I can tell you that it’s best to follow the recommended dose.
Note: Today, I will only talk about Armodafinil (Waklert and Artvigil). Armodafinil has an average duration of 12 hours.
Due to my current work requirements, I prefer longer-lasting Armodafinil over the shorter duration, Modafinil (Modalert, Modvigil, and Vilafinil). Which last’s 6 hours on average.
I still use Modalert sometimes, and by sales alone, Modalert is the most popular Modafinil range.
- Modalert (provigil), Modvigil and Vilafinil.
No more than 400mg or2 tablets within 24 hours.
- Waklert (nuvigil) and Arvigil.
No more than 300mg or two tablets within 24 hours.
